This map was commissioned by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to commemorate the anniversary of the state’s revolution, in celebration of a century of independence. Nine Texas heroes are pictured around the map: Stephen F. Austin (Father of Texas); Mirabeau Lamar (Father of Texas Education); Anson Jones (Architect of Annexation); Colonel James Fannin (Commander at Goliad); Ben Milan (Who will go with Old Ben Milan?); Colonel David Crockett (Hero of the Alamo); Colonel William Barrett Travis (Commander at the Alamo); Deaf Smith (Scout at the Battle of San Jacinto); and General Sam Houston (Savior of Texas). Numerous historical events are also depicted on the map.
