This map was published in Woodman’s “Guide to Texas Emigrants,” the first Texas guide printed in English. The main purpose of the guide was to promote the sale of land in Texas by the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company. Part of Woodman’s book is a pure promotion of the company, but it also contains a discussion of the various land grants in Texas, speeches and official reports on Texas, accounts of traveler’s visits there, and testimonial letters from settlers.
